The beauty about a CMS program such as Joomla is that when editing pages, you never have to worry about losing the design integrity of your website. The design remains in place as new pages are added. Here is the procedure to edit existing pages or add new pages inside your Joomla website:
Open up a web browser and login to your backend administration.
Once your logged in you will be taken into the Control Panel of your Joomla website.
Go to the top pull down tab CONTENT and select ALL CONTENT ITEMS.
This will take you to a display of all your existing pages that are in your Joomla website.
Let me give you a brief overview of what information you will see on this display. You’ll see the title of your page, under publish an icon that shows your page is currently published, the front page column indicates whether or not your page is being displayed on your homepage, order column shows the order of the display as taken from each section and category, respectively. The author of this page is handy in the event you have multiple people who are writing content and lastly the date in which it was created.
Select an existing content item by clicking on the title. You will be brought to this display that presents a WYSIWYG editor (acronym for what you see is what you get––its an editor that is similar to Microsoft’s WORD processing software. In the top section box is where you are going to be entering your content. There is another function for the bottom box but we’ll review that in a future video.
You will go to the text that you want to edit it and select it. Once selected you can edit the text or give it a bold, italicize, underline or color. You will be able to specify the justification in this area, set bullets, create indents insert images and create links just to name a few. These are most likely the ones you will be using the most here. We won’t be going through each item in the editor but rather just the most commonly used features.
To add an image, select the small insert image icon that looks like a postage stamp. You will be taken to another area that shows all images currently loaded on your server. If you do not see an image here in the shared images folder, then click on the world with an up arrow to upload images from your computer. Once the image is uploaded, the uploaded image appears in the shared images display. Click insert to add it to your page. Move the image to where you want it to go then click save or apply.
The display tabs on the right of the screen will not be necessary to change for this procedure, so for now, we can just leave the default settings alone. To create a NEW page, at the ALL Content display page, click new at the upper right hand side of your screen. This will open up a new window and blank screen for content. Enter a title, and select the section and category that best fits your new content. Enter your text and add images as necessary. When you are done, click save to capture your new page.
