Yikes, how can one possibly sort through the vast amount of development companies listed on these search engines? It can be an overwhelming process, that’s for sure. There are many people who can learn a web authoring software and begin creating and developing a website. But the trick that separates professionals from amateurs is knowing the current web trends and coding to make a website successful.

There are alot of things that go into developing a website, depending on the complexity and it always adds another level of issues when the developer your working with is in another location. Another advantage to having a local developer is that all important face to face meeting.
These meetings are important because it will be here that you can assess his/her personality and work ethics. Once you make an initial call to the web company, insist on having an initial meeting. Most do not charge anything for this consultation. You can tell them that you would like to meet with them to see if their company is a right fit for your project. If they don’t want to meet with you, then move on! If they want to charge you for it, move on! If they won’t have time for you this early on in the game, chances are it will only become worst as you get into your project.
Before you go to the initial meeting, make a list of questions you want to ask the company. Some questions might include:
“How long have you been doing this?” “Tell me about your background.” “What makes you different from all the other web development companies out there?” “Who will you be working with, is it one person of several?” “What is most important to you in handling a client? “Are you well-rounded? Do you design as well as develop? Or is one or the other consulted out?
Ideally, its great to find one that does both, design and develop (code). But chances are you won’t find many that do, or at least do both well.
